History & Sightseeing
Magnificent Moscow, the capital of Russia, has long occupied a place of significance and importance to Russians and internationals alike – a wintry bastion of politics, society and culture. In honour of the great city’s glorious past – a city which once united disparate Russian territories into one strong and powerful nation. The city was founded more than 800 years ago by Yury Dolgoruki and has a great history that you can feel everywhere.
MaMaison Pokrovka Suite Hotel is conveniently located on Pokrovka street between the Garden and Boulevard Rings, in the northern part of downtown Moscow. . Historically, Pokrovka used to connect the Kremlin to royal residences and mansions in the countryside. Whilst operating as the Tsar’s road, it also served as home to the first ever stone inn in Moscow, on a unique site at Pokrovka Gates. The famous merchant Andronova built the first stone inn in Moscow by the Pokrovka Gate, which, incidentally, marked the beginning of the hotel business in Moscow. In 1797, the Emperor Pavel issued a decree ordering three further stone two-storey hotels be built, both the same size and façade, in Moscow. One of these was erected in Pokrovka.
After the famous Moscow fire in 1812, Pokrovka rose from the ashes, just like the rest of the city, but with even more elegance and class. Nowadays, the Pokrovka area has developed into the chosen location for upscale offices, chic cafes, restaurants and boutiques. Today, Moscow, and Pokrovka in particular, is experiencing a rebirth acquiring features of a 21st century European capital. Two–storey inns “with the same façade” have long been replaced with comfortable modern hotels equipped with the state-of-the-art technology. One of them is the hotel Ma Maison Pokrovka that will open its doors in June 2007. Following historical traditions, Ma Maison Pokrovka combines the best features borrowed from European cultures with traditional Russian hospitality, warmth and respect for its guests.
